The promoting effect of tin (IV), chromium (III) and zirconium (IV) oxides additives to the binary V-Ti-oxide system in the reaction of partial oxidation of β- and γ-picolines were investigated. A correlation between the catalytic activity of the studied oxide systems and the affinity values of vanadyl oxygen proton of their surface which was involved in the deprotonation of oxidized methyl substituents was established. A hypothesis about the possibility of a synergistic effect with the simultaneous addition to vanadium pentoxide of titanium (IV) oxide and one of the promoter oxides was expressed.
