Abstract

The process of rare earth elements ions sorption (lanthanum, cerium, neodymium, samarium) by individual hydrogels of poly(acrylic) and poly(methacrylic) acids was studied. The degree of lanthanum, cerium, neodymium, samariumions sorption by individual PAA hydrogel reached maximum values (67.71, 63.33, 61.60, 66.28%, respectively) after 48 hours of interaction. The degree of lanthanum, cerium, neodymium, samarium ions sorption by individual PMAA hydrogel reached maximum values (66.28, 60.33, 57.90, 64.79%, respectively) after 48 hours of interaction. It is shown that despite the fact that polymer hydrogels are weak electrolytes, macromolecules interact with the ions present in solutions. Sorption of lanthanum, cerium, neodymium and samarium ions occurs by attaching them to oppositely charged carboxylate anion.
